KAYAKING AND MARINE ECOLOGY CLINICS

Improve your sea kayaking skills while learning about the marine ecology of the Sea of Cortez. Our American Canoe Association certified coastal sea kayaking instructors will teach our students during morning sessions according to the American Canoe Association Fundamentals of Sea Kayaking Course. The warm, tranquil bays of Espiritu Santo Island are the perfect location to improve braces, rescues, and to attempt the
Eskimo role. Later, put your new skills to the test as we do some extended paddles to explore the volcanic cliffs and white sandy beaches of the Island.
Service Includes:
Certification by the American Canoe Association Fundamentals of Sea kayaking, Sea Kayaking instruction and Natural history of Baja and the Sea of Cortez lectures by our guide. Plenty of outdoor activity and fresh meals complete the clinic. Length of the clinic is six days – five nights on the island. The price also includes the first and last night hotel accommodations on arrival and departure dates and airport transfers.

Trip itinerary (2 nights at hotel and 5 nights at island)
Day 1. Passengers are picked up at the airport and transported to their hotel. Passengers meet their kayak instructor in the evening on arrival day and will receive a trip briefing. Passengers can then enjoy a leisure night in La Paz.
Day 2. Passengers are picked up by Baja Quest staff at 8:00 a.m. and are taken to our office to drop off valuables and to pick up rental equipment. Then are transported to Espiritu Santo Island by motored vessel. Breakfast is provided during the approximately 2.5 hour ride. Lunch is provided after arriving at the island and our campsite. Our kayak instructor-naturalist will give an explanation on campsite use and kayaking skills, including a dunk test. The remainder of the afternoon is spent in the first lecture and practice of sea kayaking techniques.
Days 3-6. The mornings we concentrate on learning and practicing the techniques of sea kayaking (3 to 5 hours per day). Afternoon sessions will be dedicated to exploring the marine ecology of the Sea of Cortez. Get a hands-on look at tide pools, identify reef fishes, listen to seminars about whales and more. Seminars are taught on the beach followed by hands-on field experiences during the peaceful, vermilion skied sunsets of Espiritu Santo. We provide cocktails and snacks each evening at sunset. Meals are fresh and cooked on site. Guests are welcome to help our cook prepare meals. Then it is hiking in the arroyos and canyons, snorkeling with sea lions, beach volleyball, happy hour at sunset and time for leisure at campsite.
Day 7. (last of trip). Half-day of whatever activities the group desires. A vessel then transports passengers back to La Paz at noon. Arrival time to La Paz is approximately 4:00 p.m. Rentals are returned to Baja Quest headquarters and valuables are returned to passengers. Passenger then check into hotels and later enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant.
Day 8. Passengers check out of the hotel then are picked up by our transportation company to be taken to the airport.
Trip does not include: Airfares, crew tips, sleeping bags, pads nor snorkeling gear (rentals available upon request).
